Dr. Iyer

Mary Ann Iyer, MD has been at the forefront of Mindbody Medicine since 1982.  Board-certified in Internal Medicine and with a Masters in Psychology, she takes a uniquely psycho-spiritual approach to healing. Since 1982, Dr. Iyer has focused on the “mind-body” connection – the ways in which our maladaptive patterns of thinking cause us not only mental distress but to make poor choices for ourselves.  This inevitably leads to poor health and situations in life.  It is the confusion of our own minds that causes our suffering.

In addition to her medical degrees, Dr. Iyer trained in Native American Vison Quest, Vipassana (Insight) Meditation, Neurolinguistic Programming, and various forms of Energy Medicine to include Therapeutic Touch, Acupressure, and Reiki. Dr. Iyer honed her skills and expertise through decades as a provider, teacher, and author.  She developed the Integrative Medicine Program for Samaritan Health Services in Oregon and was the Medical Director for 9 years.  In 2004, she created a Mindful Eating series to address the burgeoning problem of obesity as a cause of illness, and taught these classes regularly for over a decade Above all, Dr. Iyer practices what she preaches:  look within to find the answers to the complexities that cause you trouble in life.  Notice the stuck patterns, and stay open to alternatives – from within.

Dr. Iyer recently retired from practice as an Internal Medicine physician and now lectures and leads workshops in Mindfulness based topics as they relate to health and wellness.   Her most recent book, My Mother’s Daughter: Healing the Pain of not Feeling Good Enough, is currently in the hands of her agent pending publication. In this book, Dr. Iyer applies her decades of experience in mindfulness practice to the challenges that may stem from challenging relationships with our mothers.  Often it is after her death that realizations surface of the profound impact she had on us.  In her usual style, Dr. Iyer approaches the subject with an eye to change the places within that hold us back from our best self. She is also the author (Mary Ann Wallace, MD) of The Heart of Healing and Mindful Eating: Mindful Life as well as numerous meditation and relaxation CDs.

Books and CDs are available on her web page at: https://maryanniyer.com/books-and-cds/.
